My Club

I am a member of my local radio club, the Lagan Valley Amateur Radio Society. This is a relatively small but very active club based in my home town of Lisburn, County Antrim. We have about 15 members and a fully equipped shack from where we can operate using almost every  transmission mode available to today's ham radio enthusiast. Over the years the Society has activated Lighthouses from St John's Point and the Mull of Kintyre during International Lighthouse Weekend. It has also mounted short DXpeditions to the Copeland Islands and The Maidens as well as participating in the River Shannon/Lough Erne rally in 1997. The club usually participates (with some degree of success) in various National Field Day events. The video below shows Paul operating the 2 metre station during the 2009 VHF National Field Day. The rig is a Yaesu FT897D and the tuner an LDG AT-100Pro.

Some years ago valuable publicity was gained for amateur radio when several members of the club were featured on radio and television programmes broadcast by Downtown Radio and Ulster Television.

During 2007 we successfully activated Sanda Island for International Lighthouse Weekend.

Find out more about the club by visiting our website .

I am also a member of my National Society, namely the Radio Society of Great Britain perhaps better known as the RSGB.
