Going Mobile

Mobile operation is very popular in the UK and Ireland. Operation can take place on all bands from 1.8MHZ to 1.3GHZ but most activity is concentrated on vhf/uhf fm.

Mobile operation is particularly attractive to those amateurs who regularly travel to and from work by car, the companionship of a group of fellow travellers easing the tedium of the journey and bringing fresh interest to the hobby.

However many hf enthusiasts have fitted 100 watt transceivers and loaded whip antennas to their vehicles and make inter-continental contacts whist driving to work.

Mobile transceivers have to contend with high noise levels, fluctuating signals and relatively inefficient antennas so high sensitivity receivers with efficient agc and noise blanker are required
.

One very important point, if you plan to operate whilst on the move, remember road safety comes first. Always concentrate on the road ahead and please, use a hands free microphone.
