DiGIcon’09

DiGIcon'09 was Northern Irelands first digital communications conference and was organised by a group of amateurs in the West Tyrone Amateur Radio Club. DiGIcon was held in the Technology Education Centre, Omagh on 19 September and was attended by amateur radio enthusiasts from both GI and EI-land.

Following registration visitors were able to view displays laid on by JBT Trading, TA Electronics, Icom, Waters & Stanton and Stephen Boyd (Second Hand Radios).

Lectures on Digital ATV, SDR, Satellite Communication and D-Star were enthusiastically received as were the raffle prizes which included an IC-E92D from Icom and a Weather Station from W & S.

A major attraction to the event was the visit of GB4FUN. This is the RSGB’s mobile Communications Demonstration module and this particular vehicle had not been seen in Northern Ireland before. Its primary role is in education at schools, but is also available to support those giving demonstrations to non-amateur audiences youth groups, scouts, guides and county shows. Visitors were able to inspect GB4FUN and discuss its facilities with Carlos Evis.

All in all this was a very successful venture. The slide show below contains photographs showing some of the exhibits, exhibitors, organisers and visitors at DiGIcon’09.
